The Bible
Where to start reading
If you are new to the Bible then the best place to start is by reading a gospel – which is the story of Jesus life, death and resurrection.
There are four gospels in the Bible (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and they teach tell the story of Jesus from their own different perspectives.
Personally, we would recommend starting with Luke (page 710 in the Bible you were given).
After that you might find it helpful to read through the book of Acts (page 754), which is also written by Luke, and tells the story of what happened after Jesus and the start of the early church.
Thirdly, there is a beautiful book of the Bible called Ephesians (page 810), which shows us what it is like to live as a follower of Jesus.
How to make sense of what you read
When you read the Bible, you don’t need to have all the answers.
A simple way to start is by using three words we often use at Connect Church: Head, Heart, Hands.
Head – What is this saying?
What’s happening in the passage? What do you learn about God or people?
Heart – What is this stirring in me?
How does it make you feel? Does anything encourage, challenge, or surprise you?
Hands – What could I do with this?
Is there a small step you could take today? Something to change, try, or pray?
You don’t need to get it perfect—just start the conversation.
How to connect with us if you want to
Of course you are very welcome to read the Bible by yourself, and we are sure that this will be a blessed and beneficial experience for you.
However, it can also be really significant to be able to ready and study the Bible with other people too. So if you think it would be helpful to do so, you could try one of the following things:
Attend a church service – you would be welcome to attend a service at Ashby Road (10:30) or at Crosby (13:00) every Sunday.
Speak with a Minister – if you would like to speak with a trusted church leader then you would be very welcome to email Tom or Fiona and they would love to help you.
Join a Connect Group – we have lots of amazing people who meet during the week to help each other learn from and apply the Bible together. Click here to see the groups that are available.
